A day in Paradise

Lihue, Hawaii
February 17-18, 2016

Throughout the last decade, I have had to travel all across the country for work. Most of the time my travel takes me to places that are small, unpopular or even unknown to most. Thankfully one of my trips has taken me to a place that is so amazingly beautiful that you have to see to believe. This place is Kauai, Hawaii. It was mid February and a very nice 75 degrees which was a huge change from the winter air back home.

I started my day in Lihue and spent the better part of it working. It was a one day in-one day out kind of trip, so I didn’t get to really enjoy the island. Before leaving, however, I did ask my client where best to get a view of the sun setting. He recommended Poipu Beach and I could not have asked for anything better!

I arrived at the beach just in time to see a magnificent sea turtle sun bathing on the beach. I’d never been so close to one that huge. My guess is he was about 2 feet wide. Thankfully there are postings that keep people away from the turtles so they are protected. I also got to see a few Seals swimming by and I was in awe of these beautiful creatures.

The sand on the beach was soft and the water was surprisingly warm. There is a tiny island located just a swimming distance from the shore. If you’re lucky you might catch a glimpse of a few seals playing.

As the sun began to set, I relaxed on the beach and thanked God for the opportunity to see such beauty. I hope that you too will one day visit Poipu Beach in Hawaii, it is truly a blessing to witness.
